Tremendous Success!
The Construction Leadership Council (CLC), a group of young leaders in the commercial construction industry, hosted an event on April 27th, 2023, from 1p to 3p at Market Hall, a new Glass City Metropark Event Center, designed to introduce the best students graduating from area high schools to commercial construction employers and union trade apprenticeship programs.
The Associated General Contractors of Northwest Ohio (AGCNWO), through its CLC, created “Draft Day” as an innovative way to help tackle our industry’s workforce shortage.
Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak, a local workforce champion, supported our event and community by engaging with the students, contractors, and unions.
The 50 students participating represented the best graduating from: Clay High School, Perrysburg High School, St. John’s Jesuit High School, Start High School, The Maritime Academy of Toledo, Toledo School for the Arts, Waite High School, and Whitmer High School.
We want to thank the mentors who have dedicated a tremendous amount of time to the success of this program: Foundation Steel LLC, Rudolph Libbe Group/ GEM, Lakeside Interior Contractors, The Lathrop Company, RMF NOOTER, LLC | NOOTER Toledo Office, OCP Contractors, Inc., and VM Systems Inc.
Students were referred by a Career Technology Education teacher or an industry professional for consideration. Students agreed to mentor and secure a driver’s license to be ready to apply for apprenticeship training programs upon graduation.
